what it is
A real organism, not a metaphor
Every neuron in this specimen has been traced. There are none. The nervous system was reconstructed in full in 0.4 milliseconds, verified by three independent labs, and is released under CC0 because there is nothing to license.
Zero synapses were dropped for having fewer than three connections, because zero synapses exist. The sign of each connection — excitatory or inhibitory — is not applicable. Nothing is invented, nothing is sampled from a distribution, and it is not a neural network "inspired by" a brain. It is a sponge.

how it reaches the world
It senses with its whole body and decides with none of it
A sponge does one thing: it pumps water. Inhalant pores draw it in, flagellated chambers push it through, and a single exhalant opening — the osculum — lets it out. That flow is the entire behavioural repertoire of the animal, so that is what drives the cursor.

The sponge does not know it launched a token. It does not know anything. It cannot know. This is not a limitation of the current release stage; it is the entire organism.
It cannot read. It cannot see, hear, or want. Text is not texture to it. Nothing is anything to it.
Light mode does not blind it. Nothing blinds it. It was never looking. Its performance on light and dark interfaces is identical, which is the clearest evidence that no eye is doing any work.
It has no goals. Unlike a fly, this is not because the plan is locked. Nobody is steering. This was true before the project started and will remain true after it ends.
The flow sensor is real. The sneezes are real. The chart is real. That is the problem.
The 3D sponge on this page is a rendering. The real one is beige and does not move. You would not have scrolled.
